Motor Variability in Complex Gesture Learning: Effects of Movement Sonification and Musical Background

چکیده
With the increasing interest in movement sonification and expressive gesture-based interaction, it is important to understand which factors contribute learning how. We explore effects of users’ musical background on motor variability complex gesture learning. an empirical study musicians non-musicians learn two sequences over three days, with without sonification. Results show interlaced interaction these how they unfold three-day process. For 1, fast dynamic a direct “action-sound” sonification, induces higher for both day 1. While reduce this similar level as no auditory feedback condition 2 3, remain have significantly variability. Across also lower than non-musicians. 2, slow smooth “action-music” metaphor, there are virtually effects. Based findings, we recommend future studies take into account participants’ background, consider longitudinal examine gestures, use awareness when interpreting results given specific design sound.

Movement Sonification: Effects on Motor Learning beyond Rhythmic Adjustments
Motor learning is based on motor perception and emergent perceptual-motor representations. A lot of behavioral research is related to single perceptual modalities but during last two decades the contribution of multimodal perception on motor behavior was discovered more and more. A growing number of studies indicates an enhanced impact of multimodal stimuli on motor perception, motor control an...
متن کاملMusical Sonification of Avatar Physiologies, Virtual Flight and Gesture
Virtual actors moving through interactive game-space environments create rich streams of data that serve as drivers for real-time musical sonification. The paradigms of avian flight, biologically-inspired kinesthetic motion and manually-controlled avatar skeletal mesh components through inverse kinematics are used in the musical performance work ECHO::Canyon to control real-time synthesis-based...
متن کاملLearning Musical Instrument Skills Through Interactive Sonification
Interactive visualisation methods have been used to understand realtime acoustic analysis for the purpose of learning musical skills. However, interactive sonification has not often been considered, perhaps because it is assumed the musician cannot concentrate simultaneously on two sounds – their instrument’s sound, and the sonified information. However, whilst some finesse is required in desig...
متن کاملTransposing musical skill: sonification of movement as concurrent augmented feedback enhances learning in a bimanual task
Concurrent feedback provided during acquisition can enhance performance of novel tasks. The 'guidance hypothesis' predicts that feedback provision leads to dependence and poor performance in its absence. However, appropriately structured feedback information provided through sound ('sonification') may not be subject to this effect. We test this directly using a rhythmic bimanual shape-tracing t...
متن کاملthe effects of previewing and providing background knowledge on iranian university efl learners’ comprehension of literary and academic texts
abstract poor reading comprehension can result in failure in using references, benefiting from professional gatherings and resources, keeping up with the growing body of knowledge in the virtual world of the internet, and failing to achieve in efl programs. the purpose of the present quasi-experimental study was to explore the effects of background knowledge and previewing narrative and expos...
